
Pullman Flight Clinic - Local FAA Medical Exams
Yes, you can get your flight physical in Pullman! We work out of the Pullman Regional Hospital Travel Clinic (located within the Emergency Department) and offer FAA medical exams to earn class 1 (ATP), class 2 (commercial) or class 3 (private/recreational) medical certificates. New since July 1, 2024 we offer class 1 or ATP physicals. We look forward to completing your FAA flight physical. How does it work?

For an appointment, please call (509) 336-7354 and leave a message OR email info@pullmanflightclinic.com. Shari, the hospital's travel clinic nurse will call you back to schedule an appointment. The clinic uses the staff of Pullman Regional Hospital's Travel Clinic for scheduling and operates out of the front of the Emergency Department.
Dr. Rhoades works primarily as an ER physician and only does flight physicals on a part time basis. He typically does physicals one or two Friday mornings per month. Physicals are available in 30 minute slots. If you need a date outside of these call or email and we can try to work something out.
September 2025: Friday September 5th, or 12th: 8am-11am (physicals available in 30 minute slots)
October 2025: Friday October 31st: 8am-11am
November 2025: Friday November 22nd: 8am-11am
December 2025: Friday December 12th or 19th: 8am-11am
2. Prior to your physical you will need to complete FAA medxpress application at the FAA website. Please use these instructions to help you through the process. Be sure to print your confirmation number or take a picture of it with your cell phone.
3. Pay the $150 fee*. The fee can be paid by cash, check or card. It will be paid to Pullman Regional Hospital at the registration desk. Payment is due at the time of appointment. Insurance is NOT accepted for flight physicals. *Per the FAA EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2025: Approved computer-based color vision screening tests will be required for new pilot exams performed after 01/01/2025. New pilots will need to pay a $50 fee (or total fee $200) to have the required computerized color vision test. The additional fee does not apply to pilots who have previously passed color vision testing for prior medical certificate.
4. The physical takes about 30 minutes. The clinic operates out of the Pullman Regional Emergency Department. You will register for your appointment at ER front desk. We will check your height, weight, blood pressure, urine (for protein and sugar), hearing and vision. The physical is a regulatory exam meant to determine fitness for flying. It is NOT intended to diagnose or treat disease. The Hospital's privacy policy will be available at time of service and is also online.

Ben Rhoades D.O.
Dr. Rhoades is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He works full time as an ER physician in Pullman. Doing flight physicals is a side job to stay involved in the aviation community. He has been practicing medicine since 2013. Dr. Rhoades holds a private pilot certificate and has been flying since 2004. He served as a flight surgeon for the U.S. Army and was deployed to Afghanistan. He also holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Washington State University, Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. Go Cougs! He is a member of the Experimental Aicraft Association and is currently working (very slowly) on an empannage kit for an RV-10.
As a FAA designated Aviation Medical Examiner, he provides pilot physicals and issues medical certificates.
